YEAR 1 PUPIL WINS PRE-PREP DESIGN COMPETITION
20 Jun 2013
Year 1 pupil, Gracie Underwood, has won the Bishop’s Stortford College Pre-Prep design competition for the front cover of a joint Senior School and Pre-Prep baking book
The book, ‘BSC Bakes’, is a fundraising idea from Senior School pupils, Tom Dawkins and Roseanna Cawthray Stern, to raise money for the trip to Malawi 2014, during which a group of 14 students along with two members of staff will be renovating a primary school through the Inspire Malawi charity. It was thought appropriate for the Pre-Prep to get involved as they are a similar age to many of the children in the school the group is going to.
Their response to the design competition was fantastic with lots of colourful and imaginative entries for Chris Sutherland, the College’s artist in residence, to choose from.
“I picked Gracie’s piece as the overall winner for the following reasons: I feel that she really understood what was required to fulfil the design brief. Her use of colour was bold, confident and well refined, and was mirrored by quality line work which worked together to create a wonderful overall shape and composition. A beautiful and fun outcome for the purpose of a front cover.”
The book will feature many original recipes from both Pre-Prep and Senior School students and is being sponsored by Right Angle (design) and Purbrooks (print).
The Malawi group are very grateful to all the students who have contributed their designs and recipes to help make this project a success and will be selling BSC Bakes towards the end of the Summer term.
