Wrekin College – Doctor McClure Competition

14 Mar 2016

We were delighted to once again host The Doctor McClure Memorial Fund Award Open Music Competition.

This year’s competition was held on Tuesday 8 March, and the range of music was wonderful to hear, the Chairman Dr R H McClure and Adjudicator Mr Jonathon Wynsome were wowed by the accomplishment of the twenty-three musicians – twelve pupils from Wrekin College and eleven from Abraham Darby Academy – who played a diverse selection of works from Moondance by Van Morrison and Après un rêve by Gabriel Fauré through to Rutter’s Suite Antique Rondo.

Our congratulations go to this year’s winner Saxophonist Sasha Usman who played Ballade for Saxophone and Piano – a smooth jazz ballad style piece with melodic lines by Keri Degg, Sasha has previously won the Junior McClure Competition and to Tom Hall from Abraham Darby Academy who took second prize with his rendition of the uplifting Zimba Zamba for Marimba by Goff Richards.

A great effort by all involved!
