Westward are Plate Runners-Up!

31 May 2018

An excited U 11 mixed netball squad competed in the Surrey Sports park Copperbox netball qualifier on Friday 27th April. Teams from all over the south East contest this qualifier, and the standard was extremely high. Our first match sadly was against the eventual winners King Rochester. Four players were 5′ 8″ tall, and they were a very polished team. We played extremely well, fending them off for some time , but they gradually got into their sharp routine and we lost 2-12. Kate Hendricks was player of the match.

Each match was 20 minutes, so we went straight back on to play Horsell school who eventually came 2nd. They were also very accomplished and we lost again. Lara Fateh was player of the match.

Westward thoroughly relished this standard of play and went on to beat Goldsworth school and we won 5-2 convincingly. Tom Donnelly was player of the match.

After lunch we played in the plate and beat Fishbourne 5-0 with some great shooting from Evie Kang and Sarah Soliman.

The final was a tough match we made lots of silly mistakes, some unusual decisions went against us and we were tired. Courthouse were strong, big players and although we never gave up we lost 4-9.

Tom Donnelly was voted player of the team and Lara Fateh the most sporting. A great venue, tournament, and definitely worth the trip. Well done guys I was very proud of you.
