Apollo Petrova has been announced as one of the 15 Foyle Young Poets of the Year.
Apollo Petrova (5th Form), a talented member of The Wellington Creative Writing Society, has been announced as one of the 15 Foyle Young Poets of the Year.
This is one of the largest literary competitions in the world and is a defining award for young poets. Indeed, the award has kick-started the careers of some of today’s most exciting new voices in the literary world.
This year’s competition attracted 12,288 poems from 5,846 poets from 69 countries, which makes Apollo’s achievements even more remarkable. Apollo went to London for the ceremony and her poem has been featured in all the leading broadsheet newspapers.
The winners are invited to attend a week’s residential creative writing course run by the Arvon Foundation; this is particularly apt as Apollo wrote her winning poem when attending such a residential writing course with The Wellington Creative Writing Society.
There was also good news for Gianni Fortes (Upper Sixth) who was placed in the top 100.
