Wellington School Pupils Celebrate A Level Success

16 Aug 2018

Wellington School is celebrating another year of strong A Level results with 70% of grades being awarded A*-B and almost 40% awarded A*-A.

Headmaster, Henry Price commented, “at the end of two years of significant A Level reform, I am incredibly proud that our pupils continue to do so well in the most challenging range of A Level Subjects, as well as achieving significant success in the Extended Project Qualification and Global Perspectives.”

Outstanding individual performances by Wellington pupils included a remarkable 5 A* grades by Marco Leong and Freddie Renyard’s 3 A* grades as well as the top grades in his Extended Project and AS Greek. Nearly a quarter of the year group achieved at least three A*-A grades and almost half achieved at least one A*-A. In Mathematics, Modern Languages, Religious Studies, Music and Latin, well over 50% of grades attained A*-A, with Biology and English not far behind.

Henry Price continues, “there are so many different nuances to the challenges, successes and disappointments contained in any set of results, and all our pupils deserve praise for their efforts, I commend all the pupils for their hard work in our rigorous, facilitating subjects and would like to thank their teachers and their families for supporting them during the last few months in particular.”

Wellington School has recently opened a new Café on site and is completing a new Library and Study Centre for the new academic year. The new Study Centre will further support pupils’ learning at Wellington, particularly in the Sixth Form. In addition to longstanding strength in A Levels and university applications, they will also launching the Sport BTEC this year and putting an increased focus on careers and future steps, ensuring that various pathways after school are understood. The pastoral team will be enhanced by the appointment of a Mental Health Lead from November and academic study, co-curricular involvement and pastoral care continue to be the key pillars of a good Wellington education.

“We continue to celebrate academic achievement, but recognise that it must be set in the broader context of a rounded education. Alongside their efforts in the classroom, this Year 13 have been exceptional contributors to the co-curriculum and have enriched the School with their leadership, warmth and good humour. I have no doubt that they will continue to flourish in the future and I wish them all well with all that lies ahead,” concluded Henry Price.
