Wellington College – Diana Award for Ella

03 Mar 2015

Ella Nowroz has been honoured with the national Diana Award, in recognition of her work in 2014 in the service of others.

Ella, an Upper Sixth boarder in the Apsley, has been given the award for her campaigning work on mental health within the school.

In October last year, Ella organised an innovative day dedicated to mental health activism. She researched and invited speakers, engaged students and undertook all aspects of organising the day.

Hundreds of pupils and over 30 teachers became involved, culminating in the production of student activist videos, ‘Black Dog’ art installations and skits written and performed in the school’s theatre. The day finished with all the work being showcased and the skits performed to an audience of several hundred people.

The Diana Award was set up in memory of Princess Diana’s belief that young people have the power to change the world for the better. It has Prime Minister David Cameron as Patron and the support of the HRH Duke of Cambridge and HRH Prince Harry.

Ella will attend a special awards ceremony in London later this year. “I am over the moon and immensely proud of winning this award,” she said. “I picked a subject that I felt extremely passionate about and I was lucky enough for the school to support me all the way in pulling off an amazing service day. There was so much hard work put into the day, with the help of the Round Square team and charities that worked with us, and watching it all pay off was enough reward for me, but to be recognised is something I am so excited about. This award has made me realise that if you put your mind to it, no matter what age you are, you honestly can make a difference, and I can’t wait to continue taking action to help the wider community.” – See more at: http://www.wellingtoncollege.org.uk/media/news/article/2152/Diana-Award-for-Ella/#sthash.JtZNPo09.dpuf
