USA Sevens train at Trinity School
07 Jul 2016
The USA Sevens team, one of the top sides on the HSBC Rugby Sevens circuit, came to train at Trinity School in Croydon ahead of their next tournament in Paris. The team used the school’s world-class indoor and outdoor facilities. They first trained in the new strength and conditioning centre then moved out onto the pitches last Saturday 7th May. Many Trinity students, along with other members of the wider school community, came to watch the open training session in glorious sunshine and afterwards were treated with autograph and photo opportunities and a chance to get up close with the international athletes.
It is the second time this academic year that Trinity has hosted an international rugby team. Last September, the school in Croydon hosted the French rugby side during Rugby World Cup 2015, an opportunity that set new heights for one of the most talked about rugby schools in the country. The Rugby World Cup legacy in 2015-16 has been extraordinary for Trinity; their U13A rugby team were crowned National Champions and the School now boasts two national team captains, Gabriel Ibitoye and Charlie Fatoma (both Year 13).
Daniel Ekundayo, a year six student who plays in the U11A Rugby team was thrilled to meet the professional players after their training session, and said afterwards: “It was amazing seeing the players in real life. Watching them train really inspired me and I especially enjoyed meeting Perry Baker who’s my favourite player.”
