Trinity U12s win Surrey Cup
18 Aug 2015
For the second year in a row, Trinity U12s were crowned Surrey champions after an exhilarating day of cricket saw them defeat Cumnor House and Whitgift.
The semi-final was against Cumnor House with Trinity batting first after winning the toss. Having started slowly, Trinity produced an incredibly powerful last 10 overs to finish on 194 off their 20 overs. Notable performances came from Fiontan Logan who finished on 77 and Nathan Barnwell whose 50 came off 17 balls. This proved too much for Cumnor House who batted courageously only to fall 53 runs short. This brought about a keenly anticipated final against Whitgift. After some fantastic bowling and fielding by Whitgift in the early stages, Trinity were reduced to 55 for 5, but a superb innings from Rosh Malhotra (68 not out off 66 balls) and a great innings from Zach Figueira (43 off 40) ensured Trinity finished on a very respectable 155 off their 25 overs.
Trinity, who are unbeaten this season, produced a really mature bowling and fielding performance to put the pressure on Whitgift. In particular, the captain Nathan Barnwell produced a fearsome spell of bowling to dismiss both Whitgift opening batsmen. They were able to capitalise on this pressure and took their chances to keep Whitgift down to 135 to win by 20 runs.
This is the second year running that Trinity have won the U12 trophy and they will now represent Surrey in the National tournament next summer. Trinity Coach Grant Beresford-Miller said: “I am extremely proud of the boys as they showed great character, particularly in the final, to beat a very good Whitgift team. I am also extremely pleased for the boys as they are an incredibly hard-working team and they deserve the rewards.”
