Trinity School welcomes 140 older residents at their community Christmas party

Trinity School students, parents and staff came together to put on an evening of Christmas cheer for older people from linked residential homes, diners’ clubs and other groups, as well local residents. On Wednesday 26th November, they welcomed 140 guests to their annual Christmas Party, who were treated to tea and entertainment, including bingo, a student-led quiz, magic tricks performed by pupils and a raffle. These were followed by music from the School’s Big Band, songs and poems by the students and plenty of loud carol singing!
Headmaster Mark Bishop said: “There are fortunately no ‘league tables’ for the number of older people that schools help but to see the Trinity community working together to bring smiles to the faces of so many of our guests says just as much about a school as any academic or extra-curricular achievement.”
Pupils also performed a pantomime, served refreshments and enjoyed chatting to the guests. Parents and staff generously donated prizes, food and their time to help make the event a success.
Maureen Dixon, Head of Community Action at Trinity, who organised the Christmas party, said: “It’s wonderful to see parents, pupils and staff come together to put on a party that is enjoyed by everybody. For many of our guests this is an opportunity to take part in a Christmas celebration in the company of others.”
Care home resident, Sylvia Trinder (pictured below right with pupil Harry Cookson) commented: “I love the party and I love the music. The boys are really wonderful. It is a great school. Sixth formers (Ali, Chinny, David, Jack and Elizabeth) also visit me at the care home and spend time with me. I’ve told them my life story – they too are lovely.”
Thirteen year old pupil Harry Cookson (Year 9 – pictured below right) said: “Every helper and guest really enjoyed themselves and it was fun helping.”
