Trinity School shortlisted for Rugby School of the Year 2016 award

Trinity School (Croydon) is one of only six schools nationwide to have been shortlisted for an award that recognises outstanding contribution to the sport of rugby. The National Rugby Awards are one of the most prestigious in the game, with no other event bringing together all the clubs and players from across the leagues in England. This year’s ceremony will take place at Twickenham on September 1st and Trinity has been invited to attend alongside members of the England team and a number of Premiership players.

Trinity Director of Rugby Aaron Liffchak said: “It’s an honour to be shortlisted for such a prestigious award. The whole rugby department has worked incredibly hard over the last few years to turn Trinity into one of the country’s most talked about rugby playing schools. Being nominated for Rugby School of the Year is the icing on the cake.”

It has been an impressive season of achievements for Trinity School’s rugby, host to the

French team during Rugby World Cup 2015. The school year started with the visit of Sir Clive Woodward to coincide with the Webb Ellis Cup Trophy Tour coming to Trinity. England’s World Cup winning coach gave a motivational speech to pupils, parents, staff and guests. He also formally opened Trinity’s brand new Strength and Conditioning Centre, ready to welcome France’s national rugby side.

Hosting ‘Les Bleus’ during RWC 2015 was an unforgettable experience for the whole Trinity community, with the French team offering open training sessions for pupils to attend, one on one coaching sessions and visits of players during assembly and French classes. Now recognized as having world-class facilities, Trinity has since hosted the USA 7s in their build up to the Rio Olympics. Trinity’s U13 team went on to win the national rugby title and the School boasted two England U18 captains, with Gabriel Ibitoye captaining the England U18 side and with Charlie Fatoma given the opportunity to captain the England U18 Counties team.
