Trinity School Girls Hockey team were crowned champions after winning the London Hockey Trophy hosted at King’s College, Wimbledon on 7th October.

After being named runners up in the tournament for the previous three years in a row, the Trinity girls were determined to lift the trophy that had narrowly eluded them in recent times. The team, led by 17 year-old captain Rachel Duncan, showed great promise early on, with a win against Rosebery School that saw them finish with a comfortable 4-0. Trinity then performed well in two tight matches, one against James Allen Grammar School, losing narrowly 2-1, and another against King’s College School Wimbledon that featured an excellent pass from Charlotte Brazier to Katie Diamond who scored to win the match 1-0.

Trinity faced Tiffin School in the final. Both teams competed fiercely in what was a very tight match, with Tiffin scoring early on which was then answered by Trinity in the closing minutes of the first half to draw the teams 1-1 at half time. The second half saw no goals scored and a penalty shout-out was needed to determine a winner. After some outstanding saves by Trinity’s goalkeeper Georgia Ware-Lane, Trinity emerged victorious with a 4-3 win.

Trinity Coach Julia Wiskow said: “I’m very proud of the team and the effort that the girls have been putting in this year. They showed great determination and team work to win the tournament and fought right down to the last minute.”
