Trinity Boys Choir in Dream opera production at Aix-en-Provence

Young musicians from Trinity School (Croydon) have a busy summer of prestigious engagements ahead.
Twenty boys left at the crack of dawn on 5th June en route for Aix-en-Provence (South of France) where they will be singing and playing the roles of fairies in the celebrated revival of Britten’s Midsummer Night’s Dream choreographed by Matthew Bourne in 1991. They have rehearsed with choreographer Daisy Kemp from Bourne’s company New Adventures, who complimented the boys’ “professionalism and spirit”.
In total over sixty boys aged 10 to 14 years, many who have never sung before coming to Trinity, are involved in prestigious operas and concerts this summer. Trinity Boys Choir’s 2015 season includes The Turn of the Screw (role of Miles) in Florence, Carmen (chorus of urchins) and L’enfant et les sortilèges for Glyndebourne, The Queen of Spades (a chorus of young soldiers) at the English National Opera, a return to Aix en Provence in Britten’s Midsummer Night’s Dream (a troupe of fairies) and a concert at the BBC Proms Royal Albert Hall with the Hallé Orchestra (30th July).
Mr David Swinson, Director of Music at Trinity School, commented: “Our musicians are always proud to take part in summer festivals and concerts and there is a long tradition of Trinity School being asked to participate. Trinity Boys Choir first sang in the Aix-en-Provence Festival 23 years ago and in the BBC Proms 42 years ago! The boys get huge enjoyment from performing with professionals and a real sense of camaraderie develops during the shows.”
Ben Hill, aged 12 (Y8) – who plays the part of Cobweb in Midsummer Night’s Dream, said: “It’s my first opera and I really look forward to working with professional singers. Also I am so excited about going to the South of France for seven weeks! ”
