Student Investors prepare for National competitions
18 Feb 2015
Students at Bromsgrove School have entered two national competitions this term, backed by the IFS (Institute of Fiscal Studies) and Bank of England.
Over 10,000 UK teams entered the IFS Student Investor Challenge this year, with the Bromsgrove team comprising of Year 10 pupils Georgy Muradov and Harry Pugh, and Fifth Formers Ko Sakuma and Suren Akopyan. Having made it through to the last 84 teams nationally, the semi-final will take place from 16th February to 13th March in the form of an online challenge.
Sixth Form students have also been busy preparing for their own competition this week. The group is currently taking part in the Bank of England’s’ Target 2.0 competition, giving teams of students aged 16-18 the chance to take on the role of the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee.
Presenting to a panel of school judges, the team looked at what can and should be done to fine tune the UK economy and how to achieve the UK Central Banks’ Target rate of 2.0%.
After a well-pitched, polished and remarkably professional presentation, some gruelling questions were posed from the monetary policy committee, and the team were able to answer these with flair, confidence and poise. Very well done to all of students involved: Connie Dayina E, Quynh Truc Luong, Maximilian Mittermair, William Miners, Lev Blinov and Robin Lipeng Li.
