Strathallan Pupil Shortlisted for Prestigious Art Award

20 May 2015

Sixth form Strathallan pupil, Lorna Brown, travelled to London at the end of April for the final of the 2015 Saatchi Gallery / Deutsche Bank Art Prize for Schools.

Lorna’s artwork, ‘The Performance’, is a mixed media drawing and was one of twenty pieces shortlisted for the prestigious award back in January out of a staggering 20,000 entries.

An exhibition of all the finalists work is currently on display at the Saatchi Gallery in London and Lorna was invited to the opening event on the Tuesday 28th April where the winner was announced by Alistair Hicks, Senior Curator for Deutsche Bank’s Art Collection.

Head of Art at Strathallan, Lacey Joy said ‘The department is so proud of Lorna’s accomplishments, and her selection in the final twenty was a fantastic acknowledgement of all of her hard work and talent.’

‘As this was our first year submitting work, we were thrilled to have a piece identified in such a way.  As an artist, to have work exhibited in any context is very exciting, but to have work hanging in such a prestigious gallery at such an early stage in her artistic career has set the bar very high indeed!’

The Saatchi Gallery/ Deutsche Bank Art Prize for Schools aims to support and encourage budding young artists by providing them with a platform to showcase their work, and giving them the confidence to consider a career in the arts.  It is open to primary, secondary and sixth form schools from around the world.

The judges for this year’s prize were Lauren Child MBE, writer, illustrator and creator of ‘Charlie and Lola’; Catherine Goodman, Artistic Director of The Royal Drawing Schools; Alistair Hicks, Senior Curator for Deutsche Bank’s Art Collection; Nigel Hurst, CEO of the Saatchi Gallery and Richard Wilson, Artist whose sculpture ‘Slipstream’ was unveiled at Heathrow in 2014.
