Staines Preparatory School Raising Money for Charity
16 Apr 2015
Last week pupils from Staines Preparatory School took part in a series of fundraising activities and collected more than £1000 for four worthy charities. This year the chosen organisations were the Rainbow Trust, a charity supporting children with life threatening or terminal illnesses, Shooting Star Chase a children’s hospice, the Down’s Syndrome Association and the locally based Princess Alice Hospice.
The school has a proud, rich history of working with local and national charities and last week cemented this even further. Pupils from every year group came together having fun and building on valuable life skills such as team work and determination to help others in the community less fortunate than themselves.
The week got off to a flying start as pupils swapped shirts and ties for sports gear. They cranked up the music and were challenged to make as many rugby passes as they could against a timer. With all donations from parents and guardians going directly to the Rainbow Trust, the children spent the day with smiles on their faces.
The excitement reached fever pitch on Tuesday as pupils once again took to the sports hall to raise money for Shooting Star Chase. A tense penalty shootout competition ensued as pupils came face to face with their teachers in goal! The day had an extra special importance to one young boy in Year 1 who kindly donated his precious tooth fairy money. Whilst in reception, a little girl made a beautiful donation box especially for the day.
The clattering of coins could be heard throughout the school the following day as children emptied bottles and containers of their collected loose change into buckets to raise money for the Down’s Syndrome Association.
For the fourth and final event, pupils helped decorate the Princess Alice Hospice logo producing a beautiful piece of artwork – a dove of peace featuring hundreds of the children’s carefully saved silver coins.
Year 6 pupil Tia M, who helped organise the charity event, said: “It is nice to raise money and help other people so that they can have a good life like we have.”
