Staines Prep Raise the Roof in World Record Break at the O2 Arena

15 Mar 2012

On Tuesday 6 March, Staines Prep school choir took to the stage at the O2 Arena in London as part of a prestigious Young Voices annual concert.

The much anticipated day got underway with afternoon rehearsals. As the evening drew in, audiences took to their seats for the live musical extravaganza. It showcased the collaboration of more than 6,400 voices.

The performance was made even more memorable when the choir backed Britain’s Got Talent star 10-year-old Connie Talbot in singing Run. It broke the Guinness World Record for the most backing singers to a single vocalist.

Now in its 15th year, the event was organised by Young Voices – the world’s largest children’s choir organisation. It was established to unify children and boost their confidence by giving them the opportunity to perform in huge venues alongside professional artists from the world of music. It also raises money for the Young Voices Foundation, which helps disadvantaged young people.

Head of Music Mrs Walker said of the occasion; “It was a long and tiring day but the children enjoyed every minute. They found it exhilarating to sing as part of an enormous choir at such an iconic venue. It was a truly special experience and one which they will always remember.”
