Students from St Swithun’s school, Winchester, have been celebrating their recent success in the Education Perfect Languages Championships 2021. Following a week of intense competition, St Swithun’s was awarded first place for UK schools and ranked an impressive 58th worldwide.

Individually, 12 year old student Cheryl Chu and 15 year old student Erin Thorne-Henderson both placed in the top 100 in the world, finishing 63rd and 65th respectively.

The Education Perfect Languages Championship is a language learning competition where participants are awarded a point for every correct answer. The questions are from a large bank of vocabulary lists and from reading, writing, speaking or reading tasks. At St Swithun’s, language learners use the Language Perfect website for their everyday learning process, as well as competing against each other in tests or Championships. In the recent global Language Championships St Swithun’s students cumulatively answered 356,096 questions and logged over 544 hours of answering language questions.

Head of German at St Swithun’s, Anne Steer, said “I am so proud of our girls. We have surpassed our award count from the last championship. I commend the girls for their amazing team effort and am delighted to see their continued passion for learning languages, especially at the end of a very hard term.”
