11-year-old pupil at St Swithun’s School, Winchester Emma Pearce competed in The Portsmouth Music Festival on the 13th and 14th February.
Emma, who lives in Waterlooville, played her alto saxophone in seven different classes in the woodwind category. She was placed first in four out of these seven classes, receiving six distinctions and one highly commended.
She was also awarded The Karen Cup for musicianship and versatility. This is an overall prize for all of the woodwind section presented to one performer, awarded at the discretion of the adjudicator for a performer playing in a number of classes and demonstrating the ability to communicate music in different genres. Emma said “I was thrilled to receive this honour and thoroughly enjoyed performing for this warm and receptive audience”.
