St Swithun’s Prep celebrates World Book Day
Over 200 students at St Swithun’s Prep School dressed up and took part in a day of fun filled activities as part of World Book Day.
The day started with a book themed assembly with all the students showing off their costumes inspired by their favourite characters from a wide range of books in a short parade. The hall was full of smiley faces and the sound of laughter. All the Prep School staff joined in with the excitement and each came as the colourful crayons from the book The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt and Oliver Jeffers.
Students and parents were encouraged to design their own creative costumes while taking part in Readathon with the children fundraising to help bring the magic of books and stories to children in hospitals across the UK.
Students in Year 2 also headed into Winchester to visit Waterstones in the Brooks Shopping Centre to enjoy the children’s book department and to help continue to build a lifelong love of reading.
St Swithun’s prep Head Mr Jonathan Brough said, “A love and passion for reading are some of the most important gifts we can give to our students for any number of reasons including their all-round wellbeing and their academic success both now and in the future. We believe in creating an environment where children love to learn, and learn to meet life’s challenges head on. As part of that, we work hard to improve the diversity of literature in the children’s diet by encouraging them to try out new books and discover new authors. World Book Day is the perfect chance to do this.”
