St Swithun’s Juniors at the IAPS National Prep School Athletics Championships
09 Aug 2012
4 girls from St Swithun’s Junior School Year 6 travelled with teachers Mr Marshall and Mrs Garside to the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham to compete in the IAPS National Prep School Athletics Championships on the 2nd July.
The team of Alla Garside from Winchester, Em Hardman from Droxford, Harriet Smailes and Matilda Meynell (both from Alresford) are all members of the U12 4 x 100 m relay team. Alla Garside also ran the 800m.
We knew the girls would have to run their fastest time to even stand a chance of getting into the final but everyone had been working hard since qualifying for the event. In their relay heat they ran a new PB of 59.69. They finished second in the heat and qualified for the final. In the final the girls gave it their all and finished 6th in the country.
Alla Garside ran a new PB in the 800m of 2:37 winning her heat by a distance. The final was very competitive and Alla was placed 4th in the country.
It was a great achievement for all the girls.
