St Swithun’s Junior School, Winchester Year 5 have just returned from a week at Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Activity Centre in the New Forest. The trip served two main purposes: the first to provide hands-on education in the field of environmental studies and the second to develop the pupils’ teamwork through a selection of challenging exercises.

The girls took part in pond dipping, mini-beast identifying and field studying out in the national park. They experienced wall climbing, tree climbing, high ropes and also developed bushcraft skills including fire building and raft construction.

Year 5 teacher Mrs Karen Brown said ‘A fun time was had by all; the girls learnt a great deal about the environment and being part of a team through living and working together outdoors’.
