Equestrian
Congratulations to Lucy (UC4), who was selected by The Hurlingham Polo Association (HPA) to go to
South Africa for winter polo training, shortly before Christmas. This is a fantastic achievement Lucy –well done!
Hockey
We had a very successful end to the term with both our U12 and U13 Hockey teams.
Both teams played in the Gloucestershire Schools Hockey Tournaments in their respective age groups. The U13 team faced some very wet and cold conditions but were able to put that to one side and won their group, before playing a very tense and nervy semi-final. The game finished 1-1 with CLC scoring a dramatic last minute goal to take the game into penalty flicks. Poppy (LC2) was the hero, saving two of the oppositions flicks to take the team into a final against King’s Gloucester. Unfortunately King’s triumphed in the end, winning 2-0.
The LC1 Hockey team performed tremendously well in their tournament. The team worked extremely hard over their fixtures producing some of the best individual and team performances of the season so far. The team won all of their games and were crowned champions. This means that they have qualified for the South West tournament, held later this season. Congratulations to all involved.
Cross Country
Congratulations to Bea (LC1), Phoebe (LC3), Tanya (LC3), Poppy (UC5), Mia (UC5), Jessie (UC5) and Holly (UC5), who were all selected to represent the District of Cheltenham at the Gloucestershire County Championships in Newent at the end of last year. All of the CLC athletes performed strongly in a very competitive field in challenging, windy conditions.
Bea’s 12th place finish means she has been selected for the Prep Schools’ National Championships in Leicestershire in March. Poppy’s 7th and Holly’s 6th place finishes mean they have been selected for the South West Regional Championships in February.
Rowing
At the end of 2019 a group of senior rowers took part in the British Indoor Rowing Championships at Lee Valley. Katherine (SFC2), Alex (SFC1), Yewande (SFC1) and late substitute Maddy (UC5) (our Australian exchange student) competed in the individual 2000m race and all recorded PBs.
The group then took part in the team relay and in a neck-and-neck race over eight minutes managed to secure the bronze medal. This is another excellent result – well done.
British Indoor Rowing Champion 2019
In the individual event for under 18 girls, Katherine finished two seconds ahead of the next best competitor to take gold and become the British Indoor Champion. Congratulations Katherine on this huge achievement.
