Christine Faithfull, a Speech and Drama Teacher at Abbey Gate College was selected as the 2018 English Speaking Board (ESB) Burniston Bell Award Winner. ESB is a national awarding organisation offering qualifications in speech and language.

Named in honour of the Founder, Christabel Burniston and the Honorary President, Jocelyn Bell, this prestigious award is presented to a teacher who has shown outstanding commitment to ESB in their school.

Nominated by a team of assessors, Christine was praised for her supportive nature, excellent knowledge of the syllabus and dedication to ESB assessments.

Christine received her award at the annual ‘Young Speaker of the Year Showcase’ which took place in Liverpool in November. The event also celebrated the highest achieving learners taking ESB speech assessments over the academic year 2017-18.

Christine Faithfull said: “I was thrilled to receive this award and to meet in person the trustees and staff with whom I have contact during our annual exam preparations. As pupils perfect their ESB work I love to see them become confident and articulate with well-projected, expressive voices and it gives me great satisfaction to know that this will help them develop important skills for their future.”
