Ski Cross Success for Scott
17 Mar 2014
During the first weekend in March, seventeen year old Strathallan pupil, Scott Garvie won the Scottish Ski Cross Championships, at Glenshee, in the 16-29 age category.
Scott, who is a member of the Scottish Ski Cross Team, began competing in this discipline only three years ago where he won the 12-15 age category. Last year he move up to the 16-19 age group and finished a commendable second in against much tougher competition.
This year however was the biggest challenge of Scott’s career so far as he competed against two former GB Alpine Skiers team members, one of whom has also raced at Europa Cup and World Cup level. In the final, Scott got off to a good start and was lying second through the first part of the course but as they entered the second part Scott managed to gain the lead, on a tough and rutted course, to take first place and win the much coveted Trophy.
Director of Sport commented ‘This is fantastic achievement for Scott and we are very proud of him. At Strathallan we have a number of successful skiers and at the end of last week Scott joined the rest of the boy’s team to compete in the Scottish Schools Qualifier at Nevis Range. Fraser Buchan, Chris Guest, Scott & Scott Buchan took the top four boys places and Kirsty Guest, Hope Whitelaw, Amber Garvie and Jessica England took the top four girls places, but what is more impressive is that the top eight individual places were Strathallan skiers. Both teams have now qualified for the Scottish Schools Finals.
This follows on from the success that the boys and girls had at the British Schools Championships in February where, with addition of the Junior boys team, they won a total of eleven trophies and thirty eight medals.
It is a very exciting time for Strathallan’s skiers.’
