RGS Worcester – New judge buzzes in

The judging panel for Young Fashion Designer UK, the cutting edge competition for GCSE and A level Fashion and Textiles students, will include Lauren Guthrie, Great British Sewing Bee Finalist from the 2013 BBC series.

The BBC2 sewing phenomenon is getting the nation sewing and Lauren will be a valuable addition to the panel for the Midlands region, which is based at RGS Worcester. YFDUK rewards the talent of school and college students who have a real flair for fashion. The competition grows and grows and is now in its fourth year. The number of entries and the range of creativity amongst schools within the Midlands area has increased as word of the competition spreads.

Following Great British Sewing Bee 2013 Lauren has built up her own haberdashery, fabric and yarn shop based in Moseley, Birmingham where she also teaches sewing and dressmaking workshops. “I am delighted to have been asked by RGS to join the judges,” said Lauren. “I know from my experience of Great British Sewing Bee that having your work judged can seem daunting but it’s a great way to challenge yourself and improve your confidence and skills.”

She joins a wide range of judges, who are made up of a team of professionals from the worlds of fashion and textiles. They range from menswear buyers to textile print designers and bring real commercial insight and knowledge to the competition.

YFDUK 2014 is open to any student who has designed and made a fashion garment as part of their assessed coursework. The selected finalists are invited to attend the Midlands region final at RGS on Saturday 21st June. Entries can be made via the website: www.viatrust.co.uk.
