RGS Worcester – GCSE Results – one third of pupils achieve 9 A* or A grades

Following such excellent A Level results, RGS pupils have again performed at a high level in their GCSE examinations.  96.6% of grades were at A* – C and 56.8% at A*/A grade; one third of the year group obtained 9 or more A* or A grades.

Mr John Pitt, Headmaster, commented, “I am very proud of the RGS pupils who have done so well academically whilst also making a tremendous contribution to wider School life and taking full advantage of all the opportunities that the School provides.  These are very strong exam results from students who worked extremely hard.  They are now well set up for their Sixth Form careers at RGS.  Congratulations to all of the pupils and to the staff who have taught the pupils so well.”

There are many exceptional individual achievements, including Alec Berry, who achieved 11A* grades is the captain of Team Ascent which won the National Jaguar LandRover 4×4 Schools Challenge and went on to secure the Research and Development Award at the World Championships.  This competition took place throughout Alec’s GCSE examinations, when he was also rowing competitively for School.  Alec also debates for the School, is part of the Greenpower Racing Team, plays trombone in the ‘Big Band’ and Orchestra and is an active member of the Royal Navy, Combined Cadet Force.

The following pupils achieved 9 or more of the top A* grades and deserve particular mention: Francine Bath, Alec Berry (11 A*s), Alice Caldwell, Ellie Carey (10 A*s), Holly Chance, Nadiath Choudry (11 A*s), Ben Elgar, Catherine Horsburgh, Wilf Jenkins (10 A*s), Heloise Messervy-Whiting and Darcy Simon.
