RGS Worcester – Competition Designs Impress
02 May 2012
The Mayor of Worcester has presented prizes to winners of a ‘Design a Placemat’ competition, which was voted on by customers of Café 43 on the Tything.
Sue Poluczanis, owner of Café 43, wanted a new look to the tables in the coffee shop, so she invited pupils from her near-neighbour RGS Worcester to enter their creative and artistic designs. Customers then cast their votes to determine the winner. Danielle Greening (14) pipped the rest of the field by just one vote to claim the top prize, with Keira Brady (13) and Natasha Bratton (14) coming in joint second.
The Mayor was on hand to congratulate the winners and was delighted to see RGS Worcester building links with the local business. He commented: “A competition like this is great for drawing people into the café as well as giving the pupils the opportunity to have their work on display in a public place. All the work looked good enough to eat!”
RGS Art teacher Angie Freeman was delighted with the standard of work that was on display saying, “I was so impressed by the creativity and variety of the works produced. It’s been great to see the work up on the café walls. The girls worked hard and were rewarded with Amazon vouchers, which I’m sure they will enjoy spending!”
