RGS Worcester beat local rivals in t20 cricket

14 May 2014

A superb all-round team performance from the RGS Worcester 1st XI, saw them inflict a convincing defeat on perennial rivals King’s School Worcester in the first round of the national t20 competition.

King’s batted first but could never establish momentum to post a large score, due to some pin-point bowling and sharp fielding which yielded two run-outs among the regular fall of wickets. Among the wicket takers were Jack Taylor with figures of 2-7 and Elliott Bartlett with 2-10 off his 4 overs.

RGS made no mistake in their reply, reaching 64-1 after some controlled batting from the top order, in 14 overs. This was the first round of the National t20 competition for schools. RGS now play Leicester Grammar School in the next round.

The following day RGS made a terrific start to the longer format, defeating Warwick School. RGS batted first, scoring 265-4 with Dan Goodyear 60, Elliott Bartlett  52, Joe Watts 49 and Jack Taylor 46, all in good form. The Warwick reply stuttered to 186 all out, giving the Worcster school a win by 79 runs.

Phil Newport, Head of the RGS 1st Team: “The base for this pleasing start was set up by an intensive pre-season tour in Malta, where we played some top-class opposition, including Harrow School. We have a tough fixture list coming up, but hope to build on these two good performances.”
