Rendcomb College – Pupil’s Story Longlisted in BBC’s 500 Words Competition

16 Aug 2019

A Year 6 pupil at Rendcomb College Junior School, Ted Whitaker, has been longlisted for BBC Radio 2’s 500 Words 2019 short story competition.

Ted, who lives in Gloucester, titled his story ‘Stanley’ and it follows the journey of a WW1 soldier in the trenches who goes into ‘No Man’s Land’ each day to retrieve injured troops.

Speaking about his story, 11-year-old Ted said: “I really enjoyed writing my story, particularly when I added the twist in the storyline that Stanley is actually a dog!”

Head of Juniors at Rendcomb College, Gavin Roberts, said: “Ted should be very proud of his achievement. There were over 135,000 submissions this year and approximately only 1% made it through to the longlist so it is a fantastic accomplishment. I look forward to the 500 Words competition each year and reading all our pupils’ stories. Some even write more than one!”
