REMEMBRANCE COMMEMORATED AT LORD WANDSWORTH

Villagers from Long Sutton and children from Long Sutton primary school came together with pupils and staff at Lord Wandsworth College to stop and observe a two minute silence on Armistice Day, in memory of all those that have died in battle.

There were some 700 people gathered around the flagpole at 11am to remember those who had fallen.  The Guard of Honour from Lord Wandsworth’s Combined Cadet Force marched onto the parade, followed by the Headmaster, Governor Tim Prideaux, the Heads of College and two pupils from Long Sutton primary school, all of whom laid wreaths.

Sixth Former, Ben Baily, played the Reveille on the Bugle and Head of College, Charley Rogerson, read out the names of those from Long Sutton and Sternians (Lord Wandsworth alumni) who died in WW1. The sun shone and the birds sang as pupil, Peter Cooke, read the poem ‘In Flanders’ Fields’.  Crosses from each boarding house were laid alongside the wreaths at the foot of the flag pole and the college chaplain, Pete Maidment, led the prayers.

It was a special and poignant moment for the community to gather together, stop and remember.
