RECORD NUMBER OF CHILDREN TAKE PART IN SPORTS EXTRAVAGANZA AT LORD WANDSWORTH COLLEGE

28 Oct 2015

Lord Wandsworth College recently played host to 14 local schools and sports clubs at its biggest multi-sports festival yet.

300 children, aged 11-16, participated in a total of 68 games across three categories – rugby, hockey and netball. Robert Mays, Pangbourne College, Hampshire Collegiate School, Edgeborough Prep, Thorngrove and Portsmouth Grammar School were just some of the schools who came to take part in a carousel of competitive but friendly matches, without the need to focus on trophies or league positions, aligning closely with the Character Education programme that exists at the College.

LWC’s Director of Sport and ex-Olympic hockey player, Soma Singh, said, “Our sports festival is the highlight of our outreach programme and there was a fantastic buzz here at the weekend. We are lucky to have such beautiful and extensive playing fields and it’s the perfect way to share our facilities with other local schools and clubs. We want to encourage young people to play for the love of the game, and not to worry about the score. The result was a fantastic day where the children felt relaxed and had fun. To see so many of them playing in the glorious Autumn sunshine with smiles on their faces made it all worthwhile.”
