Record Breaking GCSE results for King’s School Pupils

30 Nov 2018

Pupils at King’s School Gloucester are celebrating the best GCSE results in the School’s history with 54% of pupils gaining Grades 9 – 7 (A* / A) and 100% of pupils achieving five or more GCSEs at Grades 9 – 4 (A*- C). Results were equally strong for both boys and girls, proving, yet again, that a co-educational schooling produces great academic results and well-rounded individuals.

The Headmaster, David Morton, commented, “The whole school community is incredibly proud of this superb year group of talented Year 11 pupils who have reached historic high standards by achieving the best ever 9 – 7 (A*/A) grades at GCSE level. The support also of our teachers and parents has been invaluable. In a summer where the school celebrates its highest ever number of pupils and the start of exciting new building projects, there is much to celebrate. The new GCSE specifications and numbers replacing grades have caused considerable controversy nationally, but our hard-working staff and pupils have worked tirelessly to achieve these excellent results.”

As is typical at King’s, these pupils have also been incredibly hard-working both in and out of the classroom. Several took part in the musical production of ‘Joseph’ in July whilst also sitting GCSE exams and others also joined the School’s prestigious sports tour to Malaysia and Singapore.

Among the top achievers were:

Charlotte Sprason: Six A* grades, four grade 9s and one short-course A* grade

Lois John: Three A* grades, three A grades and four grade 9s

Owen Brook: Three A* grades, two A grades, four grade 9s and one grade 8

Sam Lewis: Five A* grades, one A grade and four grade 9s

Eliza Davies: Four A* grades, four grade 9s, one grade 8 and one grade 7

Aman Khan: Three A* grades, four grade 9s, two A grades and one short-course A* grade

Florrie Philipson-Stow: Two A* grades, three A grades, four grade 9s and one grade 8
