Pupils and staff attend topping out ceremony for the new St Swithun’s Junior School

01 Dec 2014

Pupils and staff of St Swithun’s Junior School, Winchester took part in a topping out ceremony for their new school building today as work continues to progress on this impressive new facility at the school’s campus on Alresford Road. Pupils and staff congregated to witness headmistress Pim Grimes fix the final piece on the highest point of the roof of the newly built replacement school.

Work will now continue with internal construction elements and the new school, which will replace the existing school buildings and enable the Junior School to increase pupil numbers to 256, will open in September 2015. The development will include specialist teaching rooms, a science laboratory, an art studio, a media/computing room and a new performing arts space and gym.

Headmistress Pim Grimes said “We are delighted that progress on our new school is going so well, and that our pupils have been so engaged with the process. With the increase in capacity, we still have some spaces available in most year groups for September 2015 and I am taking great pride in showing prospective parents how our grand plans are becoming a reality.”

Any parents wishing to visit St Swithun’s Junior School should contact the school’s registrar, Mrs Sara Mathieson (mathiesons@stswithuns.com or 01962 835750).
