09 Nov 2015

Prior Park College students Isabelle McKenty and Natalie Acheson both received acting awards this weekend to honour their achievements in the field of drama.

Isabelle McKenty was awarded the Bath Young Actor of the Year award in the senior category on Sunday 18 October. Based on their achievements in the Mid-Somerset Festival, a panel of judges chose three finalists to compete for the award. The three finalists had to put together a ten minute recital around a theme composed of at least three of the following: acting, Shakespeare, verse, prose or sonnet. Isabelle, working with the theme of Psychosis, chose 4:48 Psychosis by British playwright Sarah Kane, extracts from Shakespeare’s tragedy Cymbeline and a passage from the novel The Shock of the Fall by Nathan Filer. Isabelle was overjoyed to win the award, and will be applying for Drama School this year.
Natalie Acheson also had a successful weekend at the Rose Bowl Awards for Amateur Drama and Music awards evening in Axbridge. The Rose Bowl Awards are the major event of the year in the South West region for members of the amateur theatre. Natalie was awarded the Barbara Macrae Youth Theatre Award for Best Actress, for her portrayal of Eponine in Les Miserables with the Curtain Up Theatre School.
Headmaster Mr James Murphy-O’Connor commented: “Both Isabelle and Natalie should be congratulated for their recent achievements in Drama and Acting. We at Prior Park are incredibly proud of their successes and look forward to seeing what the future holds for them both.”
