03 Jun 2014
The Junior Science Department at Prior Park College has been awarded a Royal Society Partnership Grant of £2148 to run an exciting and innovative chemistry project with Dr Antoine Buchard from the Centre for Sustainable Chemical Technologies at the University of Bath.
Prior Park College was delighted to receive support from The Royal Society and will use the grant to purchase specialist equipment to enable Junior Science students to conduct an investigation entitled “Green plastics versus water: A degradation study”. Dr Buchard, is excited at the prospect of getting increasing numbers of young students involved in hands-on scientific research.
The Royal Society offers Partnership Grants to schools and colleges who are seeking to bring science to life for their students, and has seen more than £1.3million being invested in more than 745 educational establishments since 2000.
Dr Kathryn Rix, a Science teacher at Prior Park College who has been instrumental in securing the grant, explained: “I am thrilled that our students will have the opportunity to explore science outside of the classroom and engage in activities that are not usually available to school students. In particular, our students will gain a valuable insight into the world of scientific research, relate to scientists as ordinary people and hopefully become inspired to study science in the future”.
