Oxford Schools’ Debating Competition Success For Cheltenham Ladies’ College Students
10 Mar 2021
After five hours in the online Oxford Schools’ Debating Competition, Year 12 students Valerie and Fatma-Zahra have successfully made it through to Finals Day of the Oxford Schools’ Debating Competition on 13th March. Only five out of approximately 30 teams were selected in what is undoubtedly a tough competition.
Year 13 student Lexi was instrumental in helping the pair prepare for it. The girls took part in two ‘short prep’ debates in the British Parliamentary format, during which they had 15 minutes to compose an argument in proposition or opposition of a previously unseen motion.
The motion for their first debate was, ‘This house regrets the culture of outrage’, and the second, ‘This house believes that the media should not report on the private lives of politicians’.
The girls performed incredibly well, and we are very proud of their achievement.
