Esta Felix, in Year 13 won the “Outstanding Performance” Award at The Taunton Festival recently, in a field of 432! Martin Parker, Chairman of the Festival came to present Esta with her award and stressed how superb her performance was. Many other pupils won other award in the Festival, which is always a lovely opportunity to showcase the talent at Wellington.

Pianist Anson Tang has secured his place to study at the prestigious Royal Scottish Conservatoire for September and both he and fellow Sixth Former Marco Leung are auditioning for the Two Moors Festival shortly.

“In the past three years 22 Musicians have achieved a Grade 8 or Diploma level qualification and a further 6 will be taking Grade 8 or Diploma this term” commented Andrew Trewhella, Director of Music at Wellington School. “Our musical offering is incredibly diverse, with genres ranging from Choral, a cappella and classical orchestras to Big Band, rock and an endless array of vocal styles.”

With over 20 bands and ensembles, there are many opportunities for pupils to perform and hone their musical skills. There are also many outreach activities and opportunities to local children to get involved in the musical life of the School, including the fabulous 450 strong “Come & Sing”, “The Mighty Orchestra” and “Come and Be a Chorister” where children play with our orchestras or spend a day rehearsing and singing with the outstanding Chapel Choir. In addition, our musicians are involved in the local community, regularly performing at local venues, care homes, Churches and Cathedrals throughout the South West.
