Oswetsry School – Tom receives Flame of Hope award from Cancer Research

27 Jul 2017

Young Tom Evans , pupil at Oswestry School has recently been awarded the Flame of Hope award by Cancer Research for raising approximately £18,000 in less than 12 months.

Tom decided to start fundraising for Cancer Research when he found out his grandmother had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. As a keen sheep breeder Tom decided to dye one of his sheep pink in aid of Cancer Research and take it with him to local agricultural shows around the country during the 2016 summer season. His initial target was £5,000, but by Christmas Tom had raised just under £18,000.

Cancer Research we so taken by Tom’s efforts that they contacted him to tell him he had been chosen for the Flame of Hope award. This annual national award is given to the charity’s most inspiring volunteers.

Tom hopes to reach his £20,000 target this summer by continuing to show his pink sheep.
