The Old Hall School – Lower School at Forest School
30 Jun 2015
The Lower School had a brilliant time at their Forest School outing – here is an account of 2NT’s day.
The first activity was woodcraft and the children used knives to whittle sticks they collected on the forest floor. They used the sticks to make wooden sculptures of spiders or caterpillars.
The fearless band next tackled the zip wire, and with Mr Thorpe’s help zoomed across the forest.
Archery was next and they were taught the correct way to hold a bow and fire an arrow.
Lunch round the campfire followed and then the children visited the mud kitchen and adventure playground. We finished by melting marshmallows over the campfire. A great day was had by all!
Here are two accounts of the fun written by Year 1 pupils:
‘On Friday 8th May we all went to Forest School in groups. We went on a coach and took an apple, sandwich and juice in my backpack. When we got there it was hot in the forest. There were lots of people to meet. I was very excited to go on the zip wire. First we did a bow and arrow. When we finished we went to play frisbee in the wood. Next we went on the zip wire. After that we ate an apple. If we went again I would be happy to go on the zip wire.’
‘On Friday 8th May we all went to Kynnersley Forest School. We went on a coach and we took our colourful and big backpacks. When we got there it was a cold as an icecube. In the forest there were lots of swaying trees. I was very excited to go on the monkey bars. We did wood cutting, I did a spider. After that we did archery, I hit number four. If we went again I would love to be on the monkey bars to get to the end. I had a great time.’
