OLD BROMSGROVIAN FUNDS SCHOOL OBSERVATORY

11 Dec 2013

Bromsgrove School was delighted to welcome back Old Bromsgrovian Matthew Taylor (Walters 1968-1973) on Wednesday 20th November.

Matthew responded to the Foundation Telephone Campaign back in July 2012, funding a new Observatory for the School, and the astronomy equipment, a first for Bromsgrove.  During his time at School, he was Secretary of the Astronomical Society and the project is very close to his heart.

The new observatory will allow GCSE, A Level and IB students to take part in astronomy projects at any time of the day (or night), with a suitable site being found at the Preparatory School to house the equipment. Building will begin shortly with hopes of it being unveiled at the School’s annual Commemoration Day in July 2014.

Matthew said “I had always intended to give something back to the School and was delighted when this project came up.  Inspiration is part of the essence of education and since ancient times the heavens have been a wonderful source of it.”
