New Headmaster Announced for Durham School

10 Apr 2014

Durham School is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Kieran McLaughlin as their new Headmaster from September 2014.

Mr McLaughlin has kindly given us an insight into his background: “Born and raised in Liverpool, I won an Assisted Place to study at St Edward’s College, a selective boys’ School in the city. Following my A Levels, I took up a place to read Natural Sciences at Jesus College, Cambridge, eventually specialising in Physics and Theoretical Physics. Following my PGCE, I taught in London at a number of academic schools before becoming Head of Physics at City of London Girls’ School. I then moved to Sevenoaks School as their Head of Science and Technology, where I spent four years before assuming my current role as Deputy Head (Academic) at Rugby School.

During my career I have been involved with a number of national curriculum initiatives, as well as delivering INSET on behalf of HMC and the National College of School Leadership. In my past I have also been the bass player in an obscure Liverpudlian rock band, as well as pursuing the ancient martial art of Ju-Jitsu to black belt level. Current interests include the arts, travel and family life.”

We look forward to welcoming Mr McLaughlin to Durham School.
