New Emma Thornton building opened at Finton House School
10 Oct 2013
The buzz in the playground at Finton House was louder than usual on Thursday 5th September as the Autumn Term got underway. The reason for the excitement was the unveiling of the new playground, improved classrooms, new cloakrooms and the subject specialists’ rooms in the beautifully designed Emma Thornton Building. There were two opening ceremonies, one in the morning for the children and another in the evening for governors, staff, parents, founders and colleagues of Emma Thornton (married name Emma McKee), Headmistress from 1996 to 2002 and Governor from 2005 to 2008. Emma sadly died of cancer in 2011, and the new building is dedicated to her memory. Speeches were given by Adrian Floyd, Headmaster, Mark Chilton the Chair of the Governors and Peter McKee, who declared the building open after which parents were invited to tour the new facilities.
For anyone keen to have a look for themselves, the school’s next Open Evening is on 10th October from 6.00 – 8.30pm. Contact Lucy the Registrar for further details on 020 8682 5757.
