Mowden Hall School – Northumberland & Durham CA Reading Competition

01 Mar 2019

Several Year 5 students were due to take part in the Northumberland & Durham CA Reading Competition on 2nd February, but snowy conditions sadly prevented us from attending. They were finally able to show off their Latin reading skills today in a Mowden round of the event kindly judged by Mike Smith, organiser of the Northumberland competition. The competition was fierce as the level of talent displayed was very high. The students read with clear pronunciation, good pace and emphasis; it was very tough to judge between them! After some deliberation, a final decision was made:

Joint 3rd Place: Rafferty Belgian, Harry Nicholson, Grace Beaton

2nd Place: Fen Abraham

1st Place: Chloe Dickinson

All the competitors did a fantastic job, but Chloe just edged past them with the clarity of her pronunciation and use of her voice to put across the emotion of the piece. Well done indeed, Chloe, and thank you very much to Mike Smith for coming in to judge.
