Mowden Hall School – Bell ringers visit Hexham Abbey

With the plan to fit a new set of church bells in our own church in Newton in the not-too-distant future, Mr Bailey and some staff took a group to meet the bell-ringers at Hexham Abbey.

The group clambered all the way up the very long spiral staircase to the bell-ringers’ belfry and were taken to see the actual bells tolling at the top of the tower. They tried their hand at hand-bell ringing, once a favourite activity at Mowden Hall, but sadly not for many years since we lost our precious set of handbells back in the 1980s.

The children also visited the famous Saxon crypt and enjoyed a look around the impressive museum
