Millfield – Topical discussions at the De Coubertin Society dinner
28 Oct 2015
Physical Education pupils attended the first De Coubertin Society event of the school year. The De Coubertin Society is the PE academic society, which meets to discuss a variety of issues concerned with sport.
The first topic of the event series was titled ‘What has made the single biggest impact on professional sport since the mid-1990s?’
The event began with a welcome from the Head of Physical Education, followed by a meal. Between courses, pupils broke into mixed aged groups and worked with a member of the PE department to discuss and research their arguments using iPads and AirServer.
The groups then took turns to present their ideas, which included the impact of the media, technology, money and the London 2012 Olympic Games. They outlined the positive and negative issues involved in these areas and fielded challenging questions from fellow pupils and staff.
