Millfield School – Local Schools Collaborate For Joint Art Project

24 Jul 2017

Lower Sixth BTEC Art pupils from Millfield worked with pupils from Elmhurst Junior School in Street for a joint art project during the Summer Term.

The exchange programme is one of many local community initiatives being developed as part of the Millfield Sixth Form Programme.

Millfield pupils joined Elmhurst on a visit to RSPB Ham Wall in Shapwick to help them learn about the landscape and take photographs and sketches of the wildlife. This visit formed the basis of the pupil artwork created back at Millfield over a series of visits.

The pupils from Elmhurst created both individual mosaic tiles of scenes from Shapwick Moor and monoprints based on sketches and fallen foliage. The culmination of their work saw Elmhurst’s completed artwork displayed in Millfield’s Atkinson Gallery, as part of the Summer Show Exhibition.

Elmhurst pupils and their parents visited Millfield to see their work on display on Monday 26 June.

The Summer Show at the Atkinson Gallery, which features work selected from local artists the South West, is currently open to the public until the 4th of August, Monday – Saturday from 9:30am until 5pm.
