Millfield Pupils Pitch to Local Entrepreneurs in Year 10 Enterprise Challenge

30 Aug 2017

Year 10 pupils Archie Killen and Victor Webb have won this year’s Enterprise Challenge, an annual competition for pupils taking GCSE Business Studies.

This year, over 100 pupils paired up to design and present a business idea that offered an e-commerce platform that could be used by 333 Homes, a local property development company.

Three pairs had made it through to the final rounds of the competition: Jimmy Barnett and Ollie Haines-Francis, Jasmine Hallworth and Eleanor Edwards and Archie Killen and Victor Webb.

The three teams presented their e-commerce business plans to judges Roger Hutton (Director of 333 Homes), Anabel Sexton (Millfield governor, founder of Boudavida active wear) and Harry Renshaw-Smith (recent OM, employed by the Savills group).

The first pair to present were Jimmy Barnett and Ollie Haines-Francis, who focused their presentation around the design of an app that 333 Homes could use to interact with their customers.  The boys were commended on the level of preparation and the extent to which they had considered the potential pitfalls of their ideas.

Next, Jasmine Hallworth and Eleanor Edwards presented their bespoke online 3D interiors package that would allow customers to both decorate and furnish their new homes digitally. The creativity of their idea really impressed the judges, as it was not something they had considered possible.

The final pair were Archie Killen and Victor Webb – their idea of an all-around online service that connected customers with all of the ancillary services around buying a house was considered very impressive by the judges, and it was clear that they had really followed the instructions around how to write a compelling presentation.

Archie and Victor won the opportunity to join a professional marketing presentation for the competition’s sponsor 333 Homes in the next academic year.
