Millfield Prep Year 6 play: The Highwayman
16 Aug 2017
Pupils in Year 6 brought their version of ‘The Highwayman Micro Musical’ to audiences at Millfield Prep with a dramatic and confident performance.
‘The Highwayman’ is a popular narrative poem set in 18th century rural England, and is well known for its vivid imagery and tragic love-story. Written by Alfred Noyes and first published in 1906, it became the author’s most successful work. The content of the poem was developed into a micro-musical by Christopher Norton. It is this version that the children worked on with other primary schools during their micro-musical day in March with Christopher Norton himself.
It was a real team effort, with Year 6 members in the band and the entire year group on stage for the majority of the production.
The lines were slick and read with conviction. Overall, it was a dramatic and thought-provoking performance.
