Millfield – First call-ups for Commonwealth Games

19 Feb 2018

Lower Sixth Daphne Schrager and Year 10 Tatiana Tostevin have both received call-ups to represent their countries at the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane in April 2018.

Para-athlete Daphne Schrager received a call up to the England Para-athletics squad and will compete in the T35 100m. This builds on her earlier Team GB representation last summer at the inaugural World Para Athletics Junior Championships in Switzerland where she competed in both T35 100m and 200m at U20 level.

Tatiana Tostevin has made history as the youngest ever sportsperson selected to represent Guernsey. She will swim in backstroke events. Tatiana’s selection comes after a strong performance at the Commonwealth Youth Games in July 2017 where she broke many Island records and qualified for the 50M backstroke final, finishing 6th at just 14 years old, the youngest of the other seven finalists.

Daphne’s coach, Director of Athletics, Alan Richardson commented, “Daphne’s selection is testament to her hard work, professionalism and dedication and is richly deserved. There is no greater honour than to represent your country. A multi-sport games is a fantastic experience for any athlete and one I’m sure Daphne will relish.”

Director of Swimming, Euan Dale added, “Tatiana’s success at such a young age is a reflection of her dedication in the pool. Her coach, Rachel Aldington, and the rest of Millfield Swimming are thrilled to see Tatiana taking part in the Commonwealth Games and wish her every success with Team Guernsey.”

In addition to pupil call-ups, Millfield’s Director of Swimming, Euan Dale, and Swimming Coach, Dan Waddingham, will also join Team England’s Coaching and Strength and Conditioning teams.

Recent OMs James Guy and Cameron Kurle have also been selected to represent Team England in swimming.
