Manor Prep – British Biathlon Champions and National Schools’ Biathlon Champions
04 Jun 2014
Having become British Biathlon Champions in November 2013 competing against club and school athletes, The Manor U10 Biathletes also became National Schools Biathlon Champions on 5 April 2014 at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, one of the iconic sporting venues of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The U11 team from The Manor came 2nd in their age group.
14 girls from Y5 (U10) and Y6 (U11) at The Manor joined 1600 school athletes aged between 9 and 18 to take part in the British Schools’ Biathlon Championships. The girls each had to swim 50m in the stunning purpose-built Olympic pool and run 800m. All of the girls produced personal bests in one or both of the disciplines. Florence Miller maintained her individual Bronze medal position, coming 7th in the swim and 3rd in the run. Along with Georgie Halfhead and Jasmine Stanmore The Manor came 1st in the U10 girls’ team competition. Martha Blomfield, Jana Cooper Marcos and Annabelle Vallance came 2nd in the U11 girls’ team competition.
It was an inspirational day in all respects – one which the girls and staff will never forget. Spotting Tom Daley, who was training at the Olympic Park at the same time, was the icing on the cake!
